Here are some pictures of my kid's survival kits.
These live in there Camelbak packs, which also have water, food, and clothes.
Items in the kit:

• Heatsheets Emergency Bivy Sack (This comes in a nylon stuff that is twice as big as the bivy so you can add your other things)
• Band-Aid (a few sizes)
• Waterproof Matches
• Lighter (Kid friendly)
• Swiss Knife (Classic)
• Petzl e-lite headlamp
• Whistle
• Signal Mirror

At least once a year we have a family night where we talk about what to do if lost and practice using the items in the kit. Great Fun!
There is room for more.
